German Pretzel Bread and Recipe
Bread Machine Recipe for Pretzel Bread
7/8 cup water
1/2 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
2 cups bread flour
1 1/2 tsps. yeast
1 egg
kosher salt
Put ingredients in the bread machine according to manufacturer's instructions. Set on dough cycle. When finished, grease 2 cookie sheets. Take out dough and roll into log. Divide into 4 equal parts, then divide parts into 3 3 equal parts. Roll each part into a stick about 18 inches. Shape like a pretzel and put on cookie sheet. When finished, put egg in blender or blend by hand so the yolk is completely combined with the whites. Coat each pretzel bread with egg. Sprinkle salt over the bread. Make sure it has a lot of salt on it! Bake at 450 for about 12-15 minutes. Makes 12 pretzel breads. You can also make them into short bread sticks as well, if you don't want them to be in pretzel shape.

Tauernhaus, Krimmler, Salzburg, Austria
I know this isn't German, per se, but, I am just curious if anyone has any information on this building/hotel or whatever it is. I have pictures on some post cards that were written from relatives in Austria, and I have been told that an ancestor owned this. I found information on the internet, and the names of the family members who owned it were given, but I see no name that sounds like any of my ancestors. Maybe someone in Europe can tell me about this. The key words are Tauernhaus, Pinzgau, 1600m, Krimmler. If anyone can tell me any info about this place, please send your comments or email me. Thanks!!!! Oh, the web site is this: www.krimmler-tauernhaus.at/

Spaetzle Mit Nudeln Rezepte
This recipe came from my great grandmother, who we called 'Oma'. She came from the same area as the movie "The Sound of Music' was filmed. Here is an old recipe that came from her part of the world. (Recipe under photo)
Ham and Noodles- Schinken-Nudeln 6-8 oz. egg noodles 1/3 pound ham (Schinken) 1 large slice onion, chopped 1 stick butter Cook egg noodles according to directions and drain well. Meanwhile melt butter in frying pan over low-medium heat. Add onion and ham and let them saute. Add drained noodles and stir with spatula. I add Bavarian Spice seasoning to taste. Continue to saute until desired crispness. Add salt if desired.
German Music on Titusville Radio Station
You can get the Polish/German music on the computer (Internet). Here is the url for it: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/wejf
It only works on Sunday evenings from 4:30-6:00 pm.
The station is WPIO in Titusville, Florida. It is neat because Frank and Ruth Mortinouski (not sure of spelling) are on there and you can observe them running the station at this time.

Everyday German
Here is my first post in this German blog. You are welcome to join if you are a fan of German culture and language learning. I am not an expert and would like to learn from others. I will chip in ideas and thoughts about Germany and the German language. Feel free to add any contributions you might have.
